SNAKE EYES
Henry Golding + Samara Weaving In A G.I. Joe Spinoff

Yes, you read that headline correctly. We are getting a new entry into the GI Joe cinematic universe. This time Channing Tatum will not be leading the film, but Henry Golding of Crazy Rich Asians fame will. According to the brief synopsis that has been made available for Snake Eyes, the movie follows a warrior who is inducted into an ancient clan of Japanese ninjas known as Arashikage. When demons from his past threaten to derail his present, he must go on a journey alone to become the hero, “Snake Eyes.”
Robert Schwentke directed Snake Eyes from a script written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, Joe Shrapnel, and Anna Waterhouse. Yes, the characters in this film, like the previous GI Joe movies, are based on the classic Hasbro toy. In addition to Golding, Samara Weaving will also star in the film as Scarlett (who was played by Rachel Nichols in the earlier GI Joe movies.) The film also stars Andrew Koji, Úrsula Corberó, Haruka Abe, Takehiro Hira, Iko Uwais, Peter Mensah, and Steven Allerick.
A trailer was released this past month for the movie. In it, we learn that this group of ninjas has been around for 600 years, working to bring peace to the world. The teaser does not divulge any more information about the project but it hints at the events that will transpire. If you want to know any more about it, you’re going to have to wait for when it comes out in theaters and IMAX on July 23, 2021. If you are not yet comfortable going back to movie theaters, it will also be available on Paramount+ 45 days after its theatrical release date.
