Sofia Coppola has a new movie coming out soon called On The Rocks, here’s everything we know about it so far. On The Rocks centers on a woman named Laura (Rashida Jones) who fears her husband Dean (Marlon Wayans) may be having an affair with a new coworker. She enlists the help of her enigmatic, playboy father, Felix (Bill Murray), to uncover the truth. As they embark on an investigation in New York City, they also learn to take stock of their strained father-daughter relationship.
A trailer for the movie is out and it introduces us to the cast of characters. Laura is a working mom with two kids, who finds herself disillusioned with what she thought was a happy marriage. When she mentions to her father that Dean has been going away on a lot of business trips, Felix pounces on the possibility of Dean’s potential extramarital activities. Of course, the question is, is Dean really giving Laura cause to worry or is Felix projecting his monogamy issues onto his daughter’s situation?
Sofia Coppola wrote the script in addition to directing the project. The movie also stars Jessica Henwick, Jenny Slate and Barbara Bain. With a cast like that, we know that this is going to be one superbly acted film. From the trailer, it promises us a movie in the same vein as Coppola’s classic Lost in Translation. On The Rocks marks the third collaboration between Coppola and Murray, the first two were Lost in Translation and A Very Murray Christmas. On The Rocks is the first of the production partnership between Apple and A24. It is scheduled for release in October 2020.
