SPACE SEX

James Bond, Barbarella + more

Have you ever thought about having sex in space? Of course, you have. As long as people have been thinking about sex, we’ve fantasized about the different places we can do the deed. Most people will never get it on in zero gravity or on another planet, but that doesn’t stop us from wondering. So, without the ability to blast ourselves into space for recreational fun or the chance to meet an alien here on earth, we have to turn to the next best option: watching great spacey sex scenes from movies. Here is our round-up of six fun space-related sex scenes.

Barbarella

Yes, of course, we had to include the original space romp on this list. And you know just what kind of romp this will be straight from the get-go. From the moment we meet the titular heroine, she lands on a new planet and immediately sheds her clothes. Honestly, we couldn’t choose just one scene from this Jane Fonda movie. And how could we, when Barbarella wants to express her appreciation to someone, she does so by having sex. This movie made Jane Fonda a sex symbol and we can see why.

High Life

Self-love counts as sex, right? We sure think it does and that’s why High Life deserves a spot on this list. Yes, Juliette Binoche’s Dibs is one bad woman, and yes, everyone aboard the spaceship in this movie is a criminal, but Dibs is extra bad. Still, that doesn’t mean she can’t show herself some love. She is continuously turned down by the film’s protagonist Monte (Robert Pattinson), whom she desires, so she decides to show herself love by entering “the Box,” a small room aboard the ship with a built-in masturbation device.

Lifeforce

Of course, a movie about a naked space vampire, Space Girl (Mathilda May), who sucks the life force from people’s mouths, has lots of sex in it. The scene we’re talking about, though, is the one at the very end of the movie. In this scene Col. Tom Carlsen (Steve Railsback) and Space Girl float towards her spaceship while having sex. But the sex is a way for Carlsen to distract the vampire so he can impale her.  It brings a whole new meaning to “little death,” the French term for orgasm, doesn’t it?

Moonraker

James Bond certainly likes to get it on, anywhere, anytime. Of course he figured out how to find his way onto a space-themed sex list. At the end of Moonraker, after the villain is defeated and all is right with the world, Bond (Roger Moore)  and Bond girl. Holly Goodhead (Lois Chiles) decided to have some zero-gravity fun. Their fun comes much to the amusement of Bond’s superiors who sees their exploits over a video feed, and Q (Desmond Llewelyn) gifts us with the wonderfully punny “I think he’s attempting re-entry, sir.” Do you think Ms. Goodhead lives up to her name?

Starman

Who hasn’t fantasized about romancing an alien who lands on earth? There aren’t a lot of people who’ve had that fantasy, but when that spaceman looks like Jeff Bridges, you might sing a different tune. In Starman, Bridges is the title character whose spaceship is shot down and crashes in Wisconsin. There he finds solace in the arms of widow Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen). She tries to help him get back to his planet, but first, they find time for a dalliance aboard a boxcar train.

Supernova

This scene in the widely panned Supernova has to be on this list, not only for its zero-gravity sex but because it was initially between Peter Facinelli and Robin Tunney’s characters. However, after poor chemistry and a creative change, the scene was digitally altered to be between the film’s leads James Spader and Angela Bassett. So, while you watch Spader and Bassett engage in zero gravity intercourse, know that it’s only their faces you are watching, superimposed onto the bodies of Facinelli and Tunney. Isn’t movie magic great?
