She may be the daughter of Hollywood stars Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, but Maya Hawke is fantastic in her own right. She first gained significant recognition in the third season of Netflix’s Stranger Things. In the beloved sci-fi series, Hawke portrayed teenager Robin, who gets a summer job working at Scoops Ahoy with Steve Harrington (Joe Keery). The two end up unearthing a dangerous plot by Russian communists and their routine day job turns into a battle for survival. Not only was Hawke’s Robin a great new addition to the fan-favorite show, it was also wonderful to see a fleshed-out queer character whose storyline didn’t hinge upon her sexuality. In addition to Stranger Things, Hawke was in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood. In the film, an ode to Hollywood’s golden age, Hawke played Manson family-member Linda Kasabian.

Although productions are currently at a standstill, Hawke has a couple upcoming projects in the pipeline. First is Gia Coppola’s Mainstream. Not much information is known about this one, but Hawke will star in it alongside Andrew Garfield, Chris Messina, Nat Wolff and Alexa Demie. There’s also no release date yet for Mainstream. Then there is Please Baby Please, directed by Amanda Kramer. Information about this movie is even scarcer than details for Mainstream, but from the tagline, it sounds like it might be an erotic thriller. Hawke will star alongside Andrea Riseborough and Charlie Plummer.

In addition to acting, Hawke is also a talented singer. She released her first two singles, “To Love a Boy” and “Stay Open,” in August 2019. Her debut album, Blush, is currently scheduled to be released June 19, 2020. And, while we are still a few weeks away from the full album, she has released two singles: “By Myself” and “Coverage.” You can also watch the music video for “By Myself,” which was directed by Amanda Kramer.
