Submergence, a thriller
Wenders directs Alicia Vikander, James McAvoy

Director Wim Wenders’s new film, Submergence, is being called a romantic thriller. With gorgeous stars like Academy Award-winner Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl, Tulip Fever) and Scottish heartthrob, James McAvoy (X-Men), we understand the romantic part.
They play a couple that meets by chance in an isolated area of Normandy and fall hopelessly in love. She’s a mathematician about to embark on a deep-sea diving mission to discover the origin of life on earth, and he’s a secret British intelligence officer on his way to Somalia to investigate suicide bombers attacking Europe.
Soon they separate, never knowing if the other is alive or dead. Both face terrible peril in their jobs: she’s stranded at the bottom of the ocean and he’s captured by Jihadist fighters. Will they find each other again or remain on the existential plane of the unknown?
We’ll have to wait to see Submergence when it opens April 13th, to find out.
