If you’re vaccinated against COVID-19, just being in a movie theater might feel like a thrill. So if you want to get your adrenaline pumping this summer, take a look at these upcoming action movies.

SAS: Red Notice

A group of mercenaries led by criminal Grace Lewis (Ruby Rose) has been wreaking havoc across Europe. But the film quickly morphs into Die Hard on a train when a group of mercenaries tries to blow up the Channel Tunnel. The criminal group includes Andy Serkis as George Clements and Tom Wilkinson as William Lewis.

Trying to stop their explosive hijinks is the chiseled Tom Buckingham (Sam Heughan of Outlander 0).

Director Magnus Martens (mostly known for TV directing on Fear The Walking Dead, Power, and 12 Monkeys) helmed this film based on the bestselling book of the same name by Andy McNab.

This British film was released on March 16, 2021, and is available on VOD across most major platforms.

Above Suspicion

After a bank robbery, Susan Smith (Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke) becomes the star witness for FBI Agent Mark Putnam (Jack Huston of Kill Your Darlings, Fargo’s Season 4, and 2016’s Ben-Hur). Their working relationship soon becomes a romantic relationship before taking a violent turn.

Australian director Phillip Noyce is no stranger to the action genre, with his early-1990s Jack Ryan adaptations of Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, and more recently with Salt.

Based on the non-fiction book of the same name by journalist Joe Sharkey the film is about the true crime story of an FBI agent and his murdered mistress.

This long-gestating film was announced in 2016 and ready since 2019. It plays in select theaters and on VOD beginning on May 7, 2021.

Oxygen

Take a deep breath before you start streaming this Netflix sci-fi thriller.

Mélanie Laurent (of Inglourious Basterds Shosanna, and 2010’s Beginners) stars as…well, she can’t remember. Her character wakes up in a cryogenic chamber with no memory of how she got there. Before her oxygen runs out, Laurent’s character has to solve a mystery to escape.

Director Alexandre Aja (2006 version of The Hills Have Eyes and 2010’s Piranha 3D) helmed this high concept French film. In 2017, Anne Hathaway had been attached to lead and replaced with Noomi Rapace before Laurent took over.

It will be available to stream via Netflix on May 12, 2021.

Riders of Justice

A bearded Mads Mikkelsen releases the full force of his Danish fury on a group of terrorist assassins who killed his wife in what first appeared to be a tragic train accident. Mikkelsen’s character Markus was a soldier who served in Afghanistan. He joins the Riders of Justice motorbike gang, a group of middle-aged Danes who look more like they’re ready to take on a rival bowling league than rival killers.

Directed by Anders Thomas Jensen (multiple Oscar nominee and an Oscar winner for his 1998 short Election Night), is in charge of this black comedic drama from Denmark.

It will be released theatrically on May 21, 2021.

Red Notice

OK, we don’t know for sure that this one is coming out this summer, but we wanted to provide you with a little tease. Not to be confused with the first film we mentioned, Red Notice is an upcoming Netflix film starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot

The film is about an Interpol agent who tracks down some of the most notorious art thieves. Fingers crossed that Gal Gadot is the one catching the bad guys.
