The new French romance Summertime, directed and co-written by Catherine Corsini, looks back to 1971, as the women’s movement starts to stir in Catholic, tradition-bound France. Carole (Cécile de France), a Parisian teacher and militant feminist meets beautiful young Delphine (Izïa Higelin), a farmer’s daughter, and they embark on a passionate affair. When Delphine is called home and Carole follows her back to the conservative countryside, can their radical love endure? The film is in theaters now.
