The pandemic robbed us of many movie releases and led to many films being relegated to streaming services as opposed to movie theaters. One film that was able to buck this trend is The Batman. A movie like this can wait for its release because, well, it’s Batman. We’ve waited so long for it and the fact that it’s released two trailers in the past year and has a solid release date means it might come out.

At DC comic’s FanDome event, it premiered the newest Batman trailer. In it, we got a better look at each cast member. There’s Zoey Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jefferey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and an unrecognizable Colin Farrell as the Penguin. Of course, we can’t forget Robert Pattinson as the world’s greatest detective himself, Batman.

It will be the ninth live-action Batman film released in theaters. It also seems that this version of the dark knight differs from previous iterations. Batman seems like a simple character but he has a lot of depth that hasn’t been explored. He’s an orphan who coped with his parent’s death and the resulting PTSD by beating up criminals every night. Here’s a quote from Robert Pattinson about stepping into the role of Batman:

“I look first at the character and what I have to do with it, how I’m going to have to invent nuances in this shell, making it more complex, more complex all the time. Batman is a role in which I have to learn how to play ambiguity better. It’s out of the question to interpret a character of a single color. It’s beautiful, people who seem to live in two states at the same time.”

This version is meant to be a slightly experienced Batman whose still early in his career as a hero before he becomes the calm and strategic vigilante we know. That means you can expect to see him go overboard and maim plenty of henchmen. You’ll see it all when The Batman is released in theaters on March 4, 2022.
