The Cast of The Goldfinch
Screen Adaptation Boasts Stellar Talent

I’m sure many of you are excited about the upcoming film adaptation of Donna Tartt’s novel The Goldfinch, which follows the life of Theo Decker starting with his mother dying in a bomb explosion through his adulthood and art forgery. While we wait for the film to be released, let’s get to know some of the stellar cast.
Ansel Elgort as Theodore “Theo” Decker
He had his first film role as a supporting character in the remake of Carrie, soon after he broke your heart as Augustus in The Fault In Our Stars and kept you on the edge of your seat as Baby in Baby Driver, now this New York native will be taking on the lead role of Theo, the young man turned art forger, in The Goldfinch.
Nicole Kidman as Samantha Barbour
You know her from classics like Moulin Rouge and Eyes Wide Shut and from more recent projects like Big Little Lies, this Australian actress is no screen newbie. Kidman will be portraying Samantha Barbour, a wealthy and chilly socialite who takes Theo in after his mom dies.
Aneurin Barnard as Boris Pavlikovsky
You may not know this Welch actor by name, but you’ve certainly seen him before, whether in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk or Mary Queen of Scots, you know his face. Aneurin Barnard will be playing Boris Pavlikovsky, the son of a Ukraninian emigre who becomes close friends with Theo.
Finn Wolfhard as young Boris Pavlikovsky
He plays Mike Wheeler on Stranger Things and Richie in It, this young actor is keeping busy. In The Goldfinch he will be portraying the younger version of Boris Pavlikovsky. I’m sure we’re going to continue seeing a lot more from this young actor.
Sarah Paulson as Xandra
Whether you know her from her work with Ryan Murphy on American Horror Story or The People vs. OJ Simpson, or for her recent role in Ocean’s 8, or even her brief role in Bird Box, we all love Sarah Paulson. In The Goldfinch, she will be playing a prostitute named Xandra, who also happens to be the girlfriend of Theo’s father Larry.
Luke Wilson as Larry Decker
Luke Wilson’s been in a heck of a lot, from classics like Legally Blonde to lesser-known films like Mini’s First Time, you’ve seen this actor around. Maybe you’re like me, and just re-watched the early 2000s’ Charlie’s Angels and its sequel, Charlie’s Angels Full Throttle, and were shocked to rediscover he was in it. Wilson will be portraying Theo’s emotionally abusive, alcoholic father, Larry.
Jeffrey Wright as James “Hobie” Hobart
You probably watch this actor as Bernard in the HBO sci-fi show about a theme park with humanoid robots, Westworld. This incredibly accomplished actor has been in many a film and TV show. Now, Wright will be playing James “Hobie” Hobart. Hobie is the legal guardian of Theo’s love interest, Pippa, as well as a mentor to Theo.
Ashleigh Cummings as Pippa
You probably don’t know her name yet, but you will. This Australian actress is quickly making a name for herself. Fans of the 1920s-set Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries will recognize her as Dorothy Williams, Miss Fisher’s employee and friend. Now, Cummings is branching into her American film career. She will be playing Pippa, Theo’s seemingly-unrequited love interest.
Willa Fitzgerald as Kitsey Barbour
This American actress is best known for her TV roles, particularly for portraying Emma Duval in the MTV Television series, Scream. The Goldfinch is her biggest film to date. In it, she will be playing Kitsey Barbour, the daughter of Kidman’s Samantha Barbour, who becomes Theo’s fiance.
Denis O’Hare as Lucius Reeve
Another actor known for working extensively with Ryan Murphy, Denis O’Hare rounds out the cast. This prolific, Tony-award winning actor will be playing Lucius Reeve an art collector who discovers Theo’s secret. Be careful, Lucius is not good news. Perhaps you remember O’Hare as the vampire king of Mississippi, Russell Edgington, in HBO’s True Blood series.
A new trailer was just released, so watch it above over and over again until that September 13 release date.
