ALL HAIL KING TIMOTHÉE
Chalamet, Pattinson Star In Netflix's The King

Timothée Chalamet will take the throne as Henry V in Netflix’s upcoming feature release, The King. Joel Edgerton co-wrote the film that also stars Lily Rose-Depp, Robert Pattinson, and Ben Mendelson. The film is a modern recreation of Shakepeare’s 15th century plays, Henry IV Part 1, Part 2, and Henry V. The King is already pegged for Oscar success this 2020 season.
In the story, Chalamet’s character ascends the throne after his father’s death, making him into a young and unwilling king. Throughout the film, Henry grapples with the difficulties of being a king while handling the responsibilities of his cruel father’s reign. David Michôd is director of the project, having starred alongside Brad Pitt in the recent military drama, War Machine. This weighty period piece takes on the outer shell of modern adaptation syphoning from a cast of talented stars and pinning Hollywood hot shots Robert Pattinson and Chalamet against each other. Chalamet is also cast in Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Little Women, to be released in the fall.
Netflix has premiered its trailer, which features dark cinematography and opens with several powerful lines delivered by Chalamet: “Already I can feel the weight of this crown that I wear.” We’re excited for his performance. The snippets show important conversations between Chalamet (Henry V) and Edgerton (Falstaff), as well as intimate sexy scenes and massive combat set pieces. The scale and budget of the film looks seismic and promises for an exciting film for deliverance. The release date is still undetermined but this trailer promises big things for young Chalamet and Michôd’s efforts. The King is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival. While we’re all waiting to see Chalamet’s signature bowl cut, the role provides a chance for the actor to don an English accent and get involved with a complex and deep character, hitherto unplayed by the young man.
