THE KING’S MAN IS SMASHING
Ralph Fiennes and Harris Dickinson lead The Prequel

Ladies and Gentlemen, The King’s Man
The King’s Man is the next entry in the Kingsman film series, and if the world doesn’t end before fall, it will be released this December after not one but seven delays. This film acts as a prequel to the series and introduces viewers to the original story of the Kingsmen, the fictional intelligence agency who are the good guys. In this prequel, the Kingsman are formed to stop a group of villains from beginning a war that they can profit from. Combat, in this case, means World War I.
Having an early 20th-century setting helps set it apart from other spy franchises out there like the Bourne, James Bond, and Mission Impossible franchises. It also makes it a distinct entry in the Kingsman series. Instead of just being another spy flick, it’s now a spy movie with a World War I backdrop. Unlike the previous Kingsman films, The King’s Man seems to have a darker, more serious tone. Yeah, there’s some humor in the trailers, but the whole movie is visually darker and less colorful than the other two, and the premise is a bit darker and isn’t a parody of an old James Bond movie. Perhaps this could be in response to the mixed reception that the previous Kingsman film received. If this film is more successful financially and critically, maybe future movies will feature a similar tone.

Like previous Kingsman films, The King’s Man features an excellent cast. James Bond veteran Ralph Fiennes will be playing the Duke of Oxford, and former Bond girl Gemma Arterton will be playing Polly. In addition, comic book movie veteran Djimon Hounsou will be playing the role of Shola. The King’s Man will be released in theaters on December 22, 2021.
