THE TURNING
Finn Wolfhard In This Early Year Scare Fest

In The Turning, a young woman named Kate (Mackenzie Davis) becomes governess for two orphans, Miles (Finn Wolfhard) and Flora (Brooklynn Prince). But Kate gets more than she bargained for when she moves into their creepy Maine estate. She discovers that something is off with both the children and the house. For her survival, Kate must figure out their secrets. If you love a good haunted house movie/creepy kid movie, The Turning is for you.
The trailer introduces us to the cast of characters that, in addition to Davis, Wolfhard and Prince, includes Barbara Marten as the housekeeper Mrs. Grose. She warns Kate to be skeptical and cautious. The trailer also gives us a peek into images of gothic horror and the well-timed jump scares that create this atmospheric and terrifying film.
The Turning is an adaptation of the Henry James novella The Turn of the Screw. The novella is about an unnamed governess who discovers that her two young charges are haunted by ghosts from their past, and she must break the demons’ hold over them. How closely The Turning adheres to the original story is not yet known. But, screenwriters Carey W. and Chad Hayes will probably put their unique stamp on the film directed by Floria Sigismondi.
Interestingly enough, The Turning is not the only adaptation of The Turn of the Screw due out this year. The second season of Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, now called The Haunting of Bly Manor, is also inspired by the novella. Fans of the first season may remember how the show deviated from its original material. There is a good chance that The Turning may be a more accurate adaptation than The Haunting of Bly Manor. Both projects are from Amblin Entertainment.
The Turning is scheduled to be released on January 24, 2020.
