Accidental Voyeurs Step Into An Erotic Thriller
PROVOKRs, you’re not going to believe this, but it seems erotic thrillers are back. The subgenre of film dominated the ‘80s with the premiere of Fatal Attraction, but it fizzled out by the 2000s. However, as we entered the new decade, several erotic thrillers popped up in the “Coming Soon” tab of major film sites, which means your watchlist is about to get longer and sexier. One of those films is The Voyeurs — and a sexy new trailer just dropped for it.
The Voyeurs follows Pippa (Sydney Sweeney of Euphoria) and Thomas (Justice Smith of the live-action Pokémon), a couple that moves into a new apartment. Here is where the eroticism comes in: They have a clear view into the windows of neighbors. (Ben Hardy plays Seb, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo plays Margot.)
As Pippa and Thomas look to spice up their sex life and vow to do crazy things before they settle down, they rely on the fantasies Seb and Margot provide that Seb documents on his camera. They don’t expect to become intimately intertwined in the couple’s life, which leads to betrayal, lies, and a lot of sex.
The trailer seduces us with its intriguing premise. The voyeuristic plotline is enough to make us want to watch, but the cast — namely one person in particular — is what excites us. It stars one of the hottest up-and-coming actresses: Sydney Sweeney. If you’re a frequent HBO watcher, you’ve seen her. Her most recent credit is The White Lotus, the dramatic thriller that has everyone talking. But it was her role in Euphoria that made her a star. She was also in a handful of episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale, so, yeah, she’s everywhere.
The Voyeurs premieres on Amazon Prime on September 10, so it will be accessible if you want to watch it over and over again.
Now, back to the erotic thriller lineup for this year. 2021 started with Fatale starring Hillary Swank and Michael Ealy. The kicker for this year, though, is Deep Water, a film starring former lovers Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck. Yes, PROVOKRs it is the decade of the erotic thriller, and we can’t wait to be seduced.
