TOBEY MAGUIRE IS BACK
Spider-Man & Babylon - Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie+

From 2002-2007 Tobey Maguire was your “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” in the Sam Raimi-helmed take on the comic book character. After his stint as Peter Parker came to an end, Maguire seemed to fall off the map. Yes, he did keep working, but he only seemed to take on one project a year if at all. In addition to that, he only had one project in his post Spider-Man years that received any major buzz, Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby, in which he starred as narrator Nick Carraway. His relative quiet has led many fans to wonder, where’d he go?

He stirred up a bit of controversy when it was revealed that he was the inspiration for “Player X” in the Aaron Sorkin dramatic biopic Molly’s Game, which starred Jessica Chastain as Molly Bloom, who ran a high-stakes underground poker club. After one particular event, it is alleged that Maguire instructed Bloom to “bark like a seal” over a $1000 poker chip. Not a good look.
It now looks like Maguire has some promising new projects on the horizon. Well, two films to be specific. The first is Damien Chazelle’s upcoming picture Babylon. While the plot for the film has been kept under wraps, it is reportedly a period piece set in old Hollywood. Maguire is set to star with a whole cast of A-listers that includes Margot Robbie, Samara Weaving, Brad Pitt, Jean Smart, Olivia Wilde, Katherine Waterston, and more. Babylon is expected to be released on January 6, 2023.

The other film that Maguire may, or may not have in the pipeline is the upcoming Spider-Man movie Spider-Man: No Way Home. Yes, we do mean the Spider-Man series that stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker. What we know so far is that Peter, in an effort to change the past, asks Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to cast a spell so people forget he is Spider-Man. Something goes wrong and Dr. Strange ends up opening a rift in the multiverse, causing people from parallel universes to enter into the film’s universe. The thing is, while several actors, like Alfred Molina, from Maguire’s Spider-Man films have been confirmed as making appearances in this new one, Maguire himself has not been confirmed. But, we’re pretty sure Marvel and Disney just don’t want to give it away and both Maguire, and other fellow Peter Parker actor Andrew Garfield will in fact join forces with Holland. It remains to be seen when Spider-Man: No Way Home hits the big screen on December 17, 2021.
