TOM HANKS IS FINCH
A Man, A Robot, A Dog, No Volleyball?

Wilson! Wilson! Wil… Oh, wait, sorry that’s the wrong film where Tom Hanks plays a man isolated from all other people who befriends an object to stay sane. Wilson is the volleyball from Cast Away, which came out back in 2000. Well, Hanks has a new movie coming out where he once again finds himself the only man, Finch. This time, he is not a castaway, but the sole survivor after some apocalyptic event.

Hanks stars in this upcoming science fiction drama as the titular Finch, an inventor and the last man on Earth. But he’s not entirely alone. With him is his beloved dog. Finch decides to build a robot to keep him and his dog company as they travel across the barren country. Finch doesn’t just decide to build a robot for his own companionship, but he knows that his time is running out and he wants someone, or thing, to be there for his dog when he passes.

Miguel Sapochnik directed Finch from a script co-written by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell. Caleb Landry Jones was cast to play the role of Finch’s robot, Jeff. Samira Wiley, Laura Harrier, and Skeet Ulrich also appear in the film, though given the last-man-on-earth, post-apocalyptic nature of the movie, their roles are unknown.

Finch was initially scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on October 2, 2020. It was pushed back to April 16, 2021 due to the pandemic. In January, 2021 it was delayed another two times. Finally, in May, 2021 AppleTV+ purchased the rights to release the film.
Finch will be released by AppleTV+ on November 5, 2021.
