Always with a rage somewhere burning in him, Tom Hardy has turned in some of the most mesmerizing and violent roles in film. He is tremendously respected by the best directors.

Everyone’s list for Tom Hardy’s Best seems different because, we believe, he has played such an array of different roles very authentically and nuanced and we seem to fall under his power and identify with one character more than another. Here are PROVOKR’s favorites and watch out for Tom Hardy in Venom 2.

1. Locke (2015)

This film truly showcases Tom Hardy at his finest. Hardy plays a construction manager on the verge of a breakdown. He displays qualities of subtlety and sensitivity that we have never seen from him before or since. It is a very vocal and physical performance that is all Tom Hardy

2. Mad Max Fury Road (2015)

His fans adore Tom Hardy in this film and so do we. This is a widely revered George Miller reboot. Hardy is Max, a former lawman and now lone wolf caught up in a post-apocalyptic chase. He is fabulously handsome framed against the desert sun as he tries to escape from a blood thirsty gang with Charlize Theron and her band of women.

3. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

In this excellent version of John La Carre’s novel, Tom Hardy plays Ricki Tarr, the nearest thing to an 007 character with Ms and Os. He is a young and physically fit spy reporting into Gary Oldman from his post in Istanbul. He is not dashing in a Bond sense but scruffy and sexy as only Tom Hardy could play.

4. The Revenant. ( 2015)

Tom Hardy is strangely exciting as he plays a villainous sociopath set on a destructive path with anyone he crosses him. Leo DiCaprio is who he collides with and Tom Hardy’s meaner than life performance is outstanding as is the film.

5. The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Tom Hardy is cast as the super villain and cult leader he is tremendously potent in the role. He is Batman’s adversary and proves fully that actions speak louder than words. This is the final chapter of Christopher Nolan’s 3 film Batman series.

6. Inception (2010)

In Christopher Nolan’s dizzying high tech thriller, Hardy plays one of a crew led by Leo DiCaprio, an industrial espionage master. Hardy is a shape shifting identity thief and he brings malice and menace crisply to the role.

7. Dunkirk (2017)

A brilliant cameo in a brilliant film for Hardy in Dunkirk. Reunited with Christopher Nolan, who has given Hardy his best roles, Hardy plays an RAF pilot saving British troops miraculously from the mouth of defeat and death. His mission is suicidal and he turns in a supercharged performance.

8. Legend (2015)

Tom Hardy takes on two roles as he tackles both roles in this stylish true crime saga of the notorious twins, Reggie and Ron Kray. He masterfully handles both roles vividly. They are very different gangsters in the 1960s of London, one a loose violent canon and one is some kind of eerie disturbed man. It is a magnificent performance.

9. Warrior ( 2011)

In this battle of brothers, Tom Hardy is pitted against Joel Edgerton as his brother in a martial arts tournament by their own father. Hardy is brutish and brooding like a young Marlon Brando.

Hardy is implosive and explosive and a match for his father played by Nick Nolte
