3 Female DJs to Watch
The Rise of the Women Behind the Tables

Think of the most famous EDM producers you know: Calvin Harris, Zedd, Marshmello, Martin Garrix. Now picture the DJs whose mixes you’ve danced to at your favorite local bar or club. You probably don’t see many women behind the turntables, but that’s about to change.
There’s a recent movement in New York and beyond that’s all about empowering female DJs. They collaborate with one another, forming collectives, many dedicating themselves to learning in male-free spaces. For many, it’s an uphill battle, but progress is being made, and different identities are making their way on stage at more and more popular dance spots.
Here are three globally up-and-coming female DJs whose names should be on your radar:
REZZ
Isabelle Rezazadeh, who goes by REZZ on stage, has two studio albums under DeadMau5’s label Mau5trap, which she signed to in 2016. REZZ got an early start DJing, mixing tracks on her laptop in her bedroom in Canada when she was only 16 and uploading them to SoundCloud. She’s been nominated for two and won one Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year, and according to her Twitter she’s got more music on the way.
Alison Wonderland
Alexandra Sholler, an Australian native, has been on the EDM scene since 2008 and is one of the most successful women in her genre. Her debut album Run is certified gold, and her sophomore album Awake debuted at number 1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums. To round out her impressive resume, she’s the highest billed female DJ to ever perform at Coachella.
TOKiMONSTA
Jennifer Lee, or TOKiMONSTA, is a wildly talented collaborator and remixer from Los Angeles. She’s the first woman to ever sign to Flying Lotus’ label Brainfeeder, and she earned a Grammy nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album. Some of her most famous collabs are with hip-hop artist Anderson .Paak, who included her in his Coachella set in 2016.
