5 Sexy 80s Music Videos
The Decade of Excess Was a Sexy Time in Music
MTV ushered in the era of the music video and the 80s were a decade of excess and sex. Let’s put those two things together. Here are 5 of the sexiest MTV music videos of the 80s.
Whitesnake – “Here I Go Again”
There are actually two music videos for “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake; one from 1982 and 1987. The latter, directed by Marty Callner, is the sexier version and well worth seeing. It’s the one with Tawny Kitaen, who was 25 at the time, dancing on top of two Jaguar XJs cars and seducing lead singer David Coverdale while he’s driving. The pair later got married after filming this music video. The hair is big and sexy, just like the 80s!
Paula Abdul – “Cold Hearted”
Paula Abdul had a good 1989. Forever Your Girl was released the year before and it churned out hits for a solid year-and-a-half. “Cold Hearted” was a #1 hit song for Abdul, who is just sexy in her black fishnets in its music video. The dance choreography was inspired by Bob Fosse’s All That Jazz, but more modern for the era.
Duran Duran – “Rio”
I mean, what’s sexier than hanging out with Duran Duran and beautiful swimsuit models in a picturesque beach on a Caribbean sea? Nothing! Nothing, I say! Directed by Russell Mulcahy, the music video for “Rio” is a celebration of tropical getaways, pop hits, and a life of excess. That sounds like the 80s to me!
Madonna “Open Your Heart”
Released in 1986, the music video for “Open Your Heart” features Madonna as an exotic dancer in a peep show in Hollywood. According to director Jean-Baptiste Mondino, “we were into a period where we were experimenting [with] some kind of freedom about the body, about sexuality and stuff.” Madonna’s look in the music video was so popular that she adopted it for her live shows in the late 80s.
Prince – “Kiss”
What can I say? Prince is just sexy! Directed by Rebecca Blake, the music video for “Kiss” features Prince emerging from the bottom of the screen in an explosion of seductive and sleek style. The Purple One’s iconic half shirt and leather jacket combo then transitions into shirtless Prince, the best kind of Prince.
