8 Songs of the Summer

Our Picks for the Hottest Hits Out

BY: Alexis Eichelberger

The biggest and best releases in music are often timed to be prime hits during the summer months. Last year’s hottest included Grammy winners like “The Middle” from Zedd and Maren Morris, Drake’s infectiously catchy “Nice For What” and more.

Here are eight singles we predict will be hot all summer long:

Halsey’s “Nightmare”

Halsey has been a hit-making machine recently, and her phenomenally successful “Without Me” is still near the top of almost every pop chart months after its release. Her latest single “Nightmare” is definitely of a different tone than “Without Me.” But the punk rock-inspired anthem is a testament to womanly power that’ll carry us through any obstacle summer throws in our way.

The Jonas Brothers’ “Sucker”

The Jo-Bros made waves when they returned to music with the release of their first single as a group since the early 2000s. “Sucker” has been a non-stop success since its release in March, and its sexy and fun energy makes it the perfect song to keep on repeat all summer long.

Khalid’s “Talk”

The young R&B artist’s sophomore album Free Spirit is all the wild and wonderful elements of summer in song form. “Talk” is the perfect radio single to highlight the softer side of the season. Smooth, blissful and sweetly sung, “Talk” is the perfect poolside song to sway to.

Katy Perry and Daddy Yankee’s “Con Calma (Remix)”

Bilingual bops have been all the rage since the stunning success of Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito.” Katy Perry’s duet with Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee satisfies our need for a little Spanish spiciness this summer. Hot summer nights spent dancing will be incomplete without the infectious salsa beat of “Con Calma” on the playlist.

Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts”

Bad babes everywhere will without a doubt be screaming the lyrics to Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” for months to come. Who needs a summer fling when you have a strong, independent spirit and the perfect hip-hop song to go with it?

Billie Eilish’s “bad guy”

Billie Eilish keeps the bass bumping in “bad guy,” the latest single from the young star’s album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? The song’s tantalizing lyrics have a way of teasing out flirty and rebellious energy –– it might just get you into a little trouble this summer.

Tove Lo’s “Glad He’s Gone”

Staying solo for summer seems to be on Tove Lo’s mind, too. In this gritty but catchy tune, pop music’s bad girl reminds us of that being alone and spending time with your crew is always better than being with someone who doesn’t know your worth. Its call-and-response chorus and empowering tone makes it sure hit for summer.

DJ Khaled and SZA’s “Just Us”

DJ Khaled’s latest collection of collab tracks features the usual powerful lineup of superstar features, but the SZA track is a sure highlight. A slow tempo and carefree tone makes “Just Us” the coolest tune for cruising along the coast and dreaming up new summer adventures.
