As the (arguably) most significant music act in the world, K-pop phenomenon BTS is always up to something big. The seven-member boy band known for their multilingual blend of pop, hip-hop and hypnotizing choreography released its latest album in February. Map of the Soul: 7 has drawn all the praise we expected and has already shattered the group’s personal bests for albums sold and downloaded.

Here’s what BTS kicked off 2020 with and what we know about plans for later this year.

Map of the Soul: 7 and How New Singles

We knew 2020 would be a big year for BTS when it broke its record for most album pre-orders by nearly 1.5 million sales. Map of the Soul: 7 debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S., becoming the fastest group since the Beatles to score four number 1 albums. On the same day of its release, BTS dropped “ON” as a single. The track debuted at number 4, making it their third top-10 track. In addition to the album version, the band also released an alternate recording featuring Australian vocal powerhouse Sia.

Fabulous Features

The BTS boys have also been making names for themselves individually by lending their voices to tracks by some of the West’s biggest stars. Though there have been plenty in recent years (remember the “Old Town Road” remix?), members have had two big hits so far in 2020. The group’s hip-hop frontman Suga was featured and co-wrote “Suga’s Interlude” for Halsey’s third album Manic, which dropped in January. And just last week, rising pop star Lauv released his album How I’m Feeling, which included the track “Who” featuring BTS members Jimin and Jungkook.

World Touring and What’s Next

To support Map of the Soul: 7, BTS will embark on its fourth world tour and second stadium tour beginning in April. However, some of the group’s hometown fans were upset  when the group’s label Big Hit Entertainment announced all four performances planned for South Korea are off due to the coronavirus outbreak. As of now, the group will perform shows scheduled across the United States, Europe and Japan. The Map of the Soul Tour will begin in Santa Clara, California, on April 25 and end in Tokyo, September 2.
