BLACKPINK ON NETFLIX
Netflix Shows Kpop Stars Like Never Before

BLACKPINK is coming to TV and laptop screens everywhere.
The K-pop queens are coming to Netflix next month with the release of the documentary Blackpink: Light Up the Sky. The film will follow the four young women through their busy days as international superstars with never-before-seen footage and exclusive interviews. It includes glimpses into home lives, training days, and more and ends with BLACKPINK’s barrier-breaking 2019 performance at Coachella.
In recent years, BLACKPINK has shattered all expectations of what a K-pop girl group could accomplish. The four members, Rosé, Jisoo, Jennie, and Lisa, joined forces in 2016 and together have broken countless records. BLACKPINK is the first female Korean act to receive an American RIAA certification for a single. They currently hold the YouTube record for the video that reached 1 billion views first. BLACKPINK became the highest-charting female K-pop act ever on the Billboard Hot 100 with its single “Ice Cream,” which features Selena Gomez.
The film Blackpink: Light Up the Sky was directed by Caroline Suh. She previously directed Netflix’s Salt Fat Acid Heat, a revolutionary four-part series about chef Samin Nosrat. RadicalMedia produced the BLACKPINK documentary, an organization that brings music-driven documentaries to life and features artists like Jay-Z, Metallica, and Pearl Jam.
The movie is due out on Oct. 14. That’s just over a week after the release of BLACKPINK’s first Korean language studio album, The Album, which is set to drop on Oct. 2. With two massive projects on the way, 2020 may be the group’s biggest year yet.
