Boy George stripped down

"YMCA" as you've never heard it

BY: Claire Connors

This week marks the official end of PRIDE month, but it’s always PRIDE at PROVOKR. In honor of our LBGTQ family, here’s a beautiful, unplugged version of “YMCA” by the always-provocative performer, Boy George. But don’t let the simplicity of his rendition of the gay anthem fool you: the message is vitally important.

Together with the Australian branch of the actual YMCA, Boy George is bringing awareness to the issues that are pertinent to Australian youth with the Why Not? Campaign. “The world is a scary and overwhelming place, it’s easy to feel you’re not important and that your views don’t matter,” said the singer about the campaign. “What if the answer to some of our biggest problems is in the mind of a young person who feels there’s not place in society for them? We need to give them a voice and start listening.”

Take a listen to his heartfelt, all-inclusive version of “YMCA.” And go to www.whynot.org.au to learn more about the campaign.
