After retiring from the runway in the late 90s, model-turned-musician-turned First Lady of France, Carla Bruni, surprised the fashion world when she joined fellow supermodels Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen, and Claudia Schiffer with Italian fashion designer Donatella Versace on the catwalk last week. “The Golden Girls of Versace” reunited for a tribute to the late Gianni Versace during Fashion Week in Milan, Italy.

Bruni-Sarkozy—she married Nicolas Sarkozy, the former President of France in 2008–will release her fifth studio album French Touch in the U.S. later this week. The record is a selection of delightful and soulful renditions of pop songs, such as “Perfect Day” by Lou Reed, “Moon River” by Henry Mancini & Johnny Mercer, and “Stand By Your Man” by Tammy Wynette.

“I never thought I would record these songs,” the singer-songwriter admitted. “I mean, they’re so perfect. But then I thought: ‘Let’s choose songs that I’m used to and I really like.’ The choice came very naturally.”

The lead off single is a rich and sultry cover of Depeche Mode‘s “Enjoy The Silence.” It’s accompanied with a sexy music video (above) directed by French filmmaker Fabienne Berthaud featuring Bruni performing the track in the Moulin Rouge cabaret in Paris’ infamous Red Light District.

Her follow up single is a seductive version of The Rolling Stones’ “Miss You” with an equally slinky music video from French photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino filmed in gorgeous black-and-white. The music video shows off Bruni’s talent for sensual movement and passion, as she delivers a powerful song about longing and desire.
