Chainsmokers Cut Loose

They Break Off Their Chains on Side Effects

Much like many of their bouncy dance hits, pop EDM duo The Chainsmokers’ new video for their song “Side Effects” perfectly encapsulates the feeling of summertime. At the directorial helm of “Side Effects” is Matthew Dillon Cohen, who has previously lent his talents on videos for Joji’s “Will He” and Gus Dapperton’s “Prune, You Talk Funny.” The video, which also features Riverdale star Camila Mendes, follows a night of fun rebellion by a hotel maid who’s fed up with having to work on a weekend.

The New York City-based group made up of DJs Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart, first made waves in the music scene with their social media satire hit “Selfie” in December of 2013. Since then, the pair have released a number of popular summer anthems including “Roses,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” and “Closer,” the last of which has over 1.3 billion plays on Spotify alone.

Side Effects” comes off of their latest EP “Sick Boy…Save Yourself” and has a view count of just short of 30 million on Youtube. While the song itself doesn’t stand out much from earlier Chainsmoker hits, the bubbly dance rhythm and smooth vocals from frequent collaborator Emily Warren proves they’re cooking with a recipe for pop perfection.
