There’s something about a woman-fronted punk band, and Clementine Creevy of Cherry Glazerr is that something.

The LA-based group formed in 2013 when Creevy (lead vocals and guitar) and bandmates Devin O’Brien (bass) and Tabor Allen (drums) were in high school. Creevy was just 16 years old then, and in the six years since, she and the rest of Cherry Glazerr have been productive both in and out of the studio.

The band signed with indie label Burger Records to record its first two albums, later scoring a deal with the more well-known Secretly Canadian. With the label known for its work with artists like Major Lazer and The War on Drugs, Cherry Glazerr re-released both of its existing records, released Apocalipstick in 2017 and cultivated its latest album Stuffed ‘n’ Ready, which became available just weeks ago.

Cherry Glazerr’s distinctly West Coast gritty guitar riffs mesh with Creevy’s dreamy soprano to create a unique blend of grunge rock with just a touch of psychedelic. Despite the sweetness of her voice, Creevy’s lyrics are unapologetic, often mocking gender roles and berating the patriarchy in a testament to her proclaimed dedication to feminism.

And Creevy’s delicate beauty coupled with her larger-than-life persona can likely be thanked for a least a bit of the attention the group has captured outside their small but dedicated following of indie kids. Creevy modeled in a Saint Laurent Paris campaign before the bad was commissioned to write a song for designer Hedi Slimane’s 2014 women’s wear show. The frontwoman also appeared in the Amazon series Transparent, appropriately playing a musician in a rock band, and had roles in Happy Death Day (2017) and Netflix Original To the Bone (2017).

Cherry Glazerr is a DIY show band all grown up, led by a woman with the charisma to keep them from becoming another fading trend. With a sound that blends the best of vintage and modern alt-rock, the group is the solution to a nostalgia you didn’t know you had with a freshness you didn’t know you needed.
