Chromeo’s Got The Juice
A Gender-bender Video with a Surprising Twist
Now this is just delightful! Chromeo has released a new music video, directed by David Wilson, for “Juice,” the first single off the upcoming album Head over Heels. The electro-pop duo took the new title to heart, as they appeared in the video wearing short skirts and hot red high heels, while sporting freshly shaved legs as they play around in an orange grove.
The song has an infectious disco bounciness quality to it that you can’t help but dance along to, especially with the clever hook, “That you’ve got the juice, yeah, yeah/That’s why I keep pressin’ ya, pressin’ ya.” It speaks to Chromeo’s fun-loving dance style that has kept the Canadian-based pair a favorite with dance rock DJs since 2002.
Visually speaking, Chromeo subverts the male gaze with two pairs of sexy legs strutting through an orange grove. But once it’s revealed that the objectified legs belong to David “Dave 1” Macklovitch and Patrick “P-Thugg” Gemayel — two Jewish men from Montreal — the viewer has either one of two reactions, disappointment and turns the video off or interest and keeps bouncing to the highly danceable track. I, for one, steer towards the latter because I like to have fun!
“Juice” is available now on Spotify and YouTube, while Head Over Heels has yet to receive a release date.
