Last week, Coldplay announced the release of its ninth studio album, Music of the Spheres. The album will drop on October 15, and with a fun concept and big-name artists lending a hand, this could be one of the band’s best!

Music of the Spheres is a space-themed album, and the idea comes from a very familiar place.

“One time I was watching ‘Star Wars’ and they had the scene with the Cantina band,” lead singer Chris Martin said on ‘The Zach Sang Show.’ “And I was like, ‘I wonder what musicians are like across the universe?’ and that led to this whole thing and now here we are.”

The space theme was taken to the max when the band premiered the lead single “Higher Power” in space. The track streamed via a live link to astronauts on the International Space Station.

Max Martin produced the track, and the band calls him “a true wonder of the universe.” This single was followed by “Coloratura” earlier this month, but the real buzz is around its upcoming release.

Last week, the band announced that the next single, “My Universe,” will drop on September 24. So naturally, this announcement quickly became a trending topic on Twitter because – drumroll please – it’s a collab with mega-popular K-pop boyband BTS.

With the pop power (and fanbase) of BTS, “My Universe” is set to be a hit.

As for any live performances of the album, the band has big plans – possibly even intergalactic. “Not many people have done it, that’s true,” Martin told Zach Sang. “But isn’t there an issue that if you play on the moon no one can actually hear? I am confused about the atmosphere. We would try anything twice. I don’t mind any ridicule as I just speak what feels true to me. That is what we all have to do.”

We’ll have to wait and see if the band makes it to space with Music of the Spheres, but for now, we’ll settle for the combined star power of Coldplay and BTS.

In the meantime, check out “Coloratura” here!
