First Aid Kit In Ruins
Swedish Folk Pop Duo Goes Back To The 80s

Feathered hair everywhere! Swedish folk pop duo First Aid Kit just released the music video for “Fireworks,” the third single from their fourth studio album, Ruins.
Directed by Mats Udd, the video features Klara and Johanna Söderberg sporting their best 80s retro high school gear in a bizarre kaleidoscope of hallways and lockers. Everything leads to the high school prom, as the duo dresses up in vintage prom dresses and outrageous makeup and hair. The clip feels like a distant teenage memory of romance and longing for something far away, before it turns into a strange alien invasion story with the sisters left behind.
Arranged like a 50s ballad, but set in the 80s, “Fireworks” is about teenage hopes and dreams, while not setting yourself up for failure. First Aid Kit conveys a sense of setting realistic expectations with lyrics like “Why do I do this to myself every time?/I know the way it ends before it’s even begun/I am the only one at the finish line.”
“We’re thrilled to release the video for ‘Fireworks,’” First Aid Kit said in a statement. “We’ve always loved the idea of American high school proms, but never got to experience one in real life. It was incredible to get to recreate one in our hometown of Stockholm with director Mats Udd.”
The duo described the music video’s retro 80s style as, “Aesthetically it’s such a different look from our previous video—it was fun to go full ‘80s mode. We got to dress up our friends and our mom in full on retro looks. We had a blast shooting this video and found out ‘Fireworks’ is a great song to slow dance to.”
First Aid Kit will be featured during both weekends of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California on Saturday, April 14th and 21st.
