Tahlia Debrett Barnett, or FKA Twigs as we know her, cannot be put in a box.

During her professional years, she’s moved fluidly through all kinds of art forms. Her roots are in dance and she’s captivated us in music videos for stars like Ed Sheeran, Jessie J and more. Just last month, she reminded us how beautifully she dances when she joined Usher on stage at the 62nd annual Grammy Awards, moving with sexy ethereal grace to some of Prince’s biggest hits.

FKA Twigs’ divine dancing is perhaps second only to her stunning voice that leaves us unsettled in the best way since she self-released her debut EP in 2012. Her subsequent two full-length albums earned her dozens of award nominations, including three Brit Awards and one Grammy. Her sophomore album Magdalene, an otherworldly synth-heavy testament to heartbreak, dropped in 2019 and was included on numerous best lists of the year.

Countless critics and listeners all over the world love her music, yet it’s nearly impossible to classify her in any one genre. Her work is boundless and more than just R&B, synth pop or electronic. The only adjectives that stick are innovative, groundbreaking and visionary.

Songwriter, producer and director are just a few more credentials FKA Twigs has collected during her prolific career across the arts. But as if those weren’t enough, she’s a fashion icon too. In 2015, she earned the British Fashion Award for Fashion Innovator.

FKA Twigs’ collection of talents, accolades and attributes could go on forever. She captivates our attention with every move she makes. After the release of Magdalene near the end of 2019 and her breathtaking, wordless Grammy performance to kick off this year, we’ll be holding our breath as we wait to see what she does next.
