‘For the Throne’

The soundtrack of Winterfell

The Battle of Winterfell is won, and the hottest collaborative soundtrack of the year has hit the market to accompany the victory.

For the Throne, the official accompanying album for the eighth season of Game of Thrones, was released April 26, just in time for the most epic battle scene in TV history. The album is 14 tracks long and features nearly 20 artist from a wide range of genres.

The album kicks off with country music’s rising star Maren Morris. “Kingdom of One” is a minor-toned, acoustic tune that perfectly captures the intensity of the final season of the HBO series in a quiet, sorrowful way.

Morris’ track is followed by the a single released before the album, “Power is Power.” The track features SZA, Travis Scott and The Weeknd, but the hottest in hip-hop don’t seem out of place on a soundtrack for a series set in a medieval age. “Power is Power” has a sound similar to what we heard from the same artists on the Black Panther soundtrack, with a heavy beat and a strong chorus.

Other highlights on the album include tracks from The Lumineers and A$AP Rocky. Again, the artists featured on the album come from all genres, a musical representation of the mass appeal of the series itself. For the Throne is a beautiful collection and tribute to the end of a television era dear to the hearts of many.
