GAGA + GRANDE COLLAB
The Pop Icons' "Rain On Me"

Two of pop music’s biggest stars released one of the best singles of 2020 as Memorial Day weekend kicked off the official start of summer.
Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s “Rain On Me” has been highly anticipated since the tracklist for Gaga’s upcoming album was released in late April. Chromatica, Gaga’s sixth studio album, was postponed from its original release date due to the coronavirus pandemic. But instead of letting the extended wait dull the anticipation surrounding the album’s release, she’s taken full advantage of the extra opportunity to promote it by releasing another phenomenal single.
In the weeks leading up to the “Rain On Me” release date, Gaga and Grande both took to social media to show their love for the track and each other. The pair posted on Instagram and Twitter about their sweet friendship and the way they’ve bonded through shared hardships. When the song itself finally released, we got a taste of that inspirational and uplifting friendship in music form.
Since the release of the lead single “Stupid Love,” we’ve known Chromatica will return us to Gaga’s days of making high-energy dance pop records. The release of “Rain On Me” solidified that assumption. The electronic beat under Gaga and Grande’s sweet duet is irresistibly fun and invites us to dance our hearts out, even if it’s just in our homes while the clubs are still closed. Lyrically, the track acknowledges the hurt both women have publicly dealt with. But it remains a happy and positive song by proclaiming a stronger message of strength and self-love.
The “Rain On Me” music video shows Lady Gaga at her performative peak. Throughout her career, she’s reigned queen of choreographed dance videos, and Grande rose to the occasion and moved right along with her for her latest release. In the video, the two return to the futuristic planet of Chromatica to get down in their latex suits, winged eyeliner and mile-long ponytails. Their chemistry and closeness is evident throughout the video, especially as it ends with the two smiling and embracing.
At the time of publication, the “Rain On Me” music video had more than 45 million views on YouTube.
Lady Gaga’s Chromatica is scheduled to release Friday, May 29.
