“‘Empty’ is just exactly what it says it is. A song about emptiness,” said lead singer Shirley Manson of the first single off their sixth album, Strange Little Birds, due out June 10. Butch Vig, the band’s drummer and co-producer described the whole album as “very cinematic and there are a lot of sonic moments on the record that are not necessarily typical Garbage. We sort of took the rock out and deconstructed the songs, made them more vulnerable-sounding.”
