Rapper slowthai is talented, gritty, and not afraid to get political. Those are just a few reasons why he’s the hottest upcoming rapper in the United Kingdom.

Tyron Kaymone Frampton, a.k.a. slowthai, dreamed of a career in music from a young age. He made recordings with friends and posted his first singles to SoundCloud while still in school. The 26-year-old finally caught his big break just a few years ago.

In 2017, Frampton started recording singles and released an E.P. with the indie label Bone Soda. But Frampton was meant for bigger things, and later that year, he signed with Method Records, which helped him drop his debut album Nothing Great About Britain in 2019. That inflammatory record put slowthai on the musical map.

After releasing his debut record in 2019, Framptom was included in BBC’s Sound of 2019 poll, which looks for the most promising rising star of the year. He was also included on the NME 100 List of hot new acts. The praise from other U.K. and international music publications came rolling in soon after. Last, but certainly not least, Nothing Great About Britain was nominated for the coveted Mercury Award.

Since being chosen as one of the hottest upcoming acts in the U.K. and beyond, Frampton has broadened his horizons and is collaborating with several prominent American hip-hop acts. He contributed vocals to a track on Tyler, the Creator’s Grammy-winning album Igor. He was also featured on a BROCKHAMPTON track and joined the group on its North American tour in 2019.

Most recently, Frampton dropped his sophomore album, Tyron. The record puts slowthai’s signature rough and rowdy rap style and politically charged rhymes in the spotlight against a backdrop of fresh new production styles. Frampton had the best of the best on his side when he created the album. The list includes A$AP Rocky, Mariah Carey, and James Blake, among many other industry stars. Notable features include A$AP himself, Blake, Dominic Fike, and U.K. rapper Skepta.

Tyron debuted atop the U.K. Albums chart. Frampton’s album has yet to reach the U.S. charts, but we anticipate he’ll be getting the attention of fans around the world soon.
