Glastonbury when it sizzles

The Brit music festival is hotter than ever

BY: Claire Connors

The famously very wet five-day Glastonbury Music Festival obeyed climate change yesterday and kicked off during a mind-numbing heat wave. Not to be outdone, the hottest bands in the world are gathering in the sleepy town of Somerset, England to celebrate the first day of summer!

The usual rock star suspects are represented this year: Katy Perry, Radiohead, Ed Sheeran, Goldfrapp, Lorde, Foo Fighters, and one Gallagher brother (you guess which one). Here at PROVOKR, however, we’re keeping an eye (and ear) open for the up and comers and one very nice surprise blast from the past.

Can’t make it to England this year? Neither can we, so here are five fierce videos to satisfy your Glasto ear candy addictions.

Anderson .Paak

A megastar in the making, this Black/Korean hip-hop performer takes the stage, dishing out his catchy California tunes with a sly wink at Bruno Mars. When he comes back to the US, he’s a must-see.

Solange

Silky, sensual R&B singer and of course, sister to Beyoncé. Need we say more?

Pumarose

With otherworldly singer Isabel Munoz-Newsome leading the way, this London-based five-piece band is destined for Glasto-greatness. Those lucky enough to catch their space-rock performance will be transformed.

Black Honey

Despite their best efforts to remain an under-the-wire indie band, Black Honey and its Blondie-esque lead singer Izzy Baxter will be one of the biggest draws this weekend, for those in-the-rock-n-roll-know.

The Flaming Lips

The American experimental band has been around for 37 years but is as bizarre and relevant as ever. Expect over-the-top space age visuals and sounds, mixed with a satisfying dose of Beatle-esque melodies.
