GRIFF: OUR FAVORITE NEW STAR
The Teen Taking On All Artforms

She’s a young woman of many talents. She sings, writes and produces music, directs her own videos and even designs her own costumes. You may not have heard of her, yet, but she’s an up and coming artist in every sense of the word. She is GRIFF.
Our latest pop star fascination, here at PROVOKR, is just 18 years old and already on her way to captivating the world. She’s been a musician almost her whole life, writing her first song at age 12. GRIFF was raised in England on church hymns, her sound reflects both her Jamaican/Chinese heritage, an appreciation for soul music and a thoroughly youthful love of pop.
In a recent interview with i-D, GRIFF recalled being moved by the music of Mary J Blige, Stevie Wonder and, most importantly, Taylor Swift. GRIFF’s clearly aligned with Swift’s lyricism and innovative take on pop. It keeps her music delightfully fresh and relatable in message.
Since signing with Warner Records, the label that’s recorded nearly all of your pop favorites from Cher to Dua Lipa, GRIFF’s released two studio tracks. The first “Mirror Talk” shows off both her vocal and production potential and talent. Her music is soulful, sweet and encourages body positivity.
Next is “Didn’t Break It Enough,” a sweet but frustrating ballad about longing for a heartbreaker. It’s fun and flirty and so is the video, a simple collection of shots that feature original artwork, unique clothing and plenty of pearls.
PROVOKR is obsessing over GRIFF, and we’re so excited to have an exclusive Q&A with her, coming soon to PROVOKR.com.
