Summer Girl Sweetness
The Latest From Haim

After weeks of steamy heat, one of our favorite girl groups just gave us the perfect song to sweeten the end of summer.
The indie-rock group Haim, a trio of sisters from California, announced in April its third studio album was on the way. The first single from that album dropped last week, and it’s a delight. “Summer Girl” is a soft, romantic soft rock single that sounds like floral skirts and sunshine. The soft melody and punchy rhythm kicked out by a drum kid and baritone saxophone has an easiness to it that makes it the perfect summer afternoon listen.
The “Summer Girl” video is flirty and fun, showing the three band members wandering down sidewalks, constantly removing layers of clothing. Various jackets and sweaters are removed until the video’s end, when the three are wearing only bras and smiling widely.
Haim has had a slow burn of a career, beginning in 2007. The sisters started out being paid for shows with food in their home state before moving on to bigger and better things and recording two studio albums. Their popularity as a live act has led to tour with Taylor Swift and Florence + The Machine, and they’ve collaborated in the studio with Vampire Weekend, Kid Cudi and Major Lazer. In 2015, the group was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys. They now sit perfectly in position to cater to the audience craving versatility and genre ambiguity.
Haim’s third studio album has no name or release date yet, but we’ll still be anxiously awaiting it.
