The fascinating frontwoman of Paramore is stepping out on her own in 2020.

Hayley Williams announced via Twitter on Dec. 26, a day after her 31st birthday, that she had been working on something of her own, and we’d get a taste of it this month. That announcement was soon followed with a few cryptic Instagram posts, and flyers appearing in various cities displaying her photo, along with the title Petals For Armor. The supposed release date printed on the flyers read Jan. 22. In recent weeks, she’s released additional hints, keeping us on our toes and excitedly waiting for more.

As the leader of one of the longest lasting and most successful groups that emerged during the pop punk era of the 2000s, Williams has become an iconic female artist during the past 10-plus years. She’s a vocal powerhouse, brilliant songwriter and entrepreneur, just to name a few titles that have been bestowed on her.

When Paramore’s fifth album After Laughter was released in 2017, it received widespread acclaim as the band’s best record to date. Lyrically clever (and sometimes devastating) and beautifully produced, it’s a testament to the group’s pop punk roots with hints of disco and synthy 80s dance tracks. Williams is credited as a c-owriter on all 12 tracks.

But since the band’s tour following the release of After Laughter concluded, Paramore has gone relatively dark. Williams personally took a definitive step back from the spotlight, only occasionally releasing news on social media regarding her hair dye line Good Dye Young. Questions were asked regarding the future of Paramore, and the bands’ members have so far given only cryptic answers hinting at their own uncertainty.

Though her band’s next move is still uncertain, we’re thrilled to see what Williams’ solo work will sound like. With a voice and songwriting skills like hers, we have no doubt it will rock our world.
