Forty years after the debut of their eponymous first album, the Ramones are being honored with an exhibition at New York’s Queens Museum through July 31. The quartet of Forest Hills, Queens, natives who would become Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee and Tommy Ramone have often been considered the first band to define the sound of American punk music. With video monitors displaying early Ramones’ shows as well as contemporaneous photographs of the band and other artifacts, the exhibit focuses on detailing the influence the Ramones had on music, fashion and culture. If you’re not familiar with the band, here’s a classic video of one of their biggest hits, “I Wanna Be Sedated,” a video tribute to them and a sampling of one of their live shows.
