Michelle Zauner Pushes The Shock Button

Michelle Zauner, Indie Pop Mastermind behind Japanese Breakfast, is on tour with her band now until November in the U.S., and then they are off to Europe through March 2022 to promote their third record, Jubilee.
After publishing her first book, a touching memoir titled Crying in H Mart, an ode to her mother who passed away from cancer in 2014, Michelle Zauner shifted gears.
“Since Crying In H Mart was such a heavy project and my last two albums were so much about grief and loss, I had been wanting to move on and write about something else for a long time”.
Jubilee is a celebration of joy according to Zauner. “Slide Tackle”, the first track on the record is an upbeat pop tune. However, after listening to “Posing in Bondage” and “Savage Good Boy” and watching these music videos, Zauner’s definition of joy is a little dark and a little naughty. Like “Road Head”, one of my favorite songs on her second album, Soft Songs From Another Planet and “Everybody Wants to Love You” on Pyschopomp, Japanese Breakfast’s debut studio album, Jubilee is a perverse, sexual and wild adventure.
Co-produced with fellow band mate, drummer Craig Hendricks and inspired by Bjork’s Homogenic and Wilco’s Summerteeth and Fiona Apple’s Extraordinary Machine, Jubilee is an ambitious album of songs with brilliant lyrics and orchestral arrangements with the addition of strings and horns.
Avant Garde in her fashion and art direction taste with a vicious bite!
Experiencing Michelle Zauner and Japanese Breakfast performing Jubilee live would be the ultimate joy!
