His latest movie, Suicide Squad, in which he plays the Joker, might be getting scathing reviews, but Jared Leto doesn’t have to sweat it. After all, he’s already proven himself as an actor—he won an Academy Award for playing a transgender woman in the 2013 movie Dallas Buyers Club. He’s also got a whole other career to focus on: being the frontman/rock star of his band Thirty Seconds to Mars. Having that kind of dual career track is a rarity in Hollywood. As Leto’s music manager, Irving Azoff, told Rolling Stone: “More than one Academy Award-winning actor has walked into my office and said, ‘I can be a successful rock star, help me!’ [But Jared’s] the only one that pulled it off.” Leto actually sees himself as more accomplished as a musician than as an actor because “I’ve been onstage more hours that I’ve been in front a camera,” he’s said. One look at this video that highlights what Leto is like live in concert shows you just how much stage presence the singer has amassed. And, fortunately, there should be more opportunities to see Leto and his band in concert in the not too distant future. Just this week, Thirty Seconds to Mars released a teaser video announcing that new songs—their first since 2013—will be arriving in 2017.
