JAY- Z MADE IN AMERICA
Lil Baby, Bieber, Megan, Doja Cat+

Music festival season is upon us once again thanks to the world opening back up after a year in lockdown. One festival I’m sure people have missed is Jay-Z’s Made in America Festival. After two years, the long-running festival is returning during Labor Day weekend on September 4th and 5th. Artists announced for the event so far include DaBaby, Lil Durk, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Roddy Rich, A$AP Ferg, Justin Bieber and many more popular artists.
Since 2012, the festival has been a staple of Labor Day weekend in Philadelphia. Jay-Z created the event as a celebration of music and culture. The inaugural event featured performances from popular music acts such as Drake, Odd Future, Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, and Run-DMC. Perhaps the most surprising fact about this inaugural event is the fact that Pearl jam performed 99 Problems with Jay-Z. For appearing at the festival, they were paid $2 million. I don’t know if the group had any problems that day but I can guarantee getting rich wasn’t one of them.
With how COVID-19 cases and deaths seem to be rising in several states, I have to wonder if this will have any sort of impact on the festival. Vaccinations have helped lower COVID-19 cases but with the appearance of the Delta variant, we could once again be looking at the return of coronavirus restrictions nationwide. Los Angeles has already brought back their mask mandate but luckily the festival won’t be held there like it was in 2014.
After a year in lockdown, it’s nice that events like Made in America will take place once again. There’s no better way to reunite people and bring them together than music from the world’s top artists.
