MEGAN THEE STALLION

The Original Hot Girl’s Rise To the Top

BY: Alexis Eichelberger

Megan Thee Stallion started a movement this year.

“Hot Girl Summer” originated from a lyric in Megan’s single “Cash Shit” but quickly grew into something more powerful. It’s all about living our sexiest and best lives. Our favorite new female hip-hop artist embodies a seductive boldness in her music, performances and style.

Born Megan Pete in Houston, she grew up in recording studios with her hip-hop artist mom (stage name Holly-wood). Megan began writing her own lyrics at 16 and released an EP with a Houston-based indie label in 2016. But, it wasn’t until last year, at 23, that she became the first female hip-hop artist to sign with 300 Entertainment. The label’s artists include Young Thug, Fetty Wap and more.

Megan’s first EP at 300 Entertainment, Tina Snow, rocketed her into the mainstream. She scored her first Billboard Hot 100 hit with her explicit single, “Big Ole Freak.” Her mixtape, Fever, dropped in May 2019 with the now iconic “Cash Shit (feat. DaBaby)”. Her rapid ascent to fame includes hot collabs with Nicki Minaj, Quavo and Ty Dolla $ign. She’s been touring the country making stops on big stages along the way, most recently at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival. At the same time, she continues working toward an online degree in health administration from Texas Southern University. (It’s Hot Girl SEMESTER now.)

Megan’s unabashed references to sex, money and other male rapper themes are a big part of her appeal. She’s hot and she knows it. Her lyrics have just the right amount of dominance. Songs like “Cocky AF,” “Hot Girl” and “Freak Nasty” are empowering in the most modern and unapologetic way. We’re all hotties in Megan’s eyes.

Megan Thee Stallion’s newest project is underway and is set to be released next year.
