Midnight Sky, Sexy Single + Perfect Video
After two weeks of teasing, Miley Cyrus finally dropped her new single, “Midnight Sky.”
She’s been posting short clips and cleverly captioned photos on her social media pages since early August without giving many details. A few throwback pics and music video clips were included. (“Start All Over” is still a bop.) Dua Lipa even made an appearance.
Now, she is finally here — the newest single for Cyrus’ upcoming album She is Miley Cyrus.
“Midnight Sky” is the kind of technopop track that’s captivating without being a shock. It’s a standard sassy Cyrus track, but her voice has a unique grittiness to it. She’s unapologetic about moving on, being seen with “his” hands on her hips and “her” mouth and her lips. She laughs in the face of disapproving ex lovers and former fans, embracing her notorious individuality.
The music video, directed by Cyrus herself, is one of the best COVID-era music videos to date. Cyrus uses glitter, gum balls, mirrors and stunning wardrobe choices to give the visuals a maximalist appeal, with no one else on camera but herself. She’s the star of her own show in this pandemic-friendly montage that’s also a celebration of self.
She is Miley Cyrus doesn’t have an official release date yet. But if “Midnight Sky” gives us an accurate taste of what the rest of the album will be like, we’re looking forward to a record full of bold pop tracks about relentless self-love.
