Nasty Cherry

Charli XCX’s girl group of misfits

Charli XCX started a band. She’s not in it –– but the four women who are credit her for forming Nasty Cherry.

The all-girl group is made up of the vocalist from the indie rock band Kitten, a Star Wars set decorator, a model, and Charli XCX’s drummer. They’re a misfit group thrown together by a pop star with a punk streak, and Charli XCX’s influence can definitely be seen and heard in the group’s style.

Currently, Nasty Cherry has released only one single. “Win” is a bass-heavy pop song with some punk rock sass in the lyrics, and the newly released music video directed by Charli XCX has a charming low-budget edginess to it. The band members spend most of the two-and-a-half minute video looking defiantly into the camera, first in white tennis skirts, then leather greaser outfits, then nudge lingerie. They finish the video covered in gold glitter and not much else.

Despite a lack of released music, the group has already secured nearly 20,000 Instagram followers, a healthy amount of attention from the music community and a live show at a small but popular Brooklyn venue. It’s a lot of hype for a band with one song, but Nasty Cherry’s already showing signs of being the next sexy girl group to steal your heart.
