Happy Pride Month, PROVOKR readers. We’re so excited it’s time to celebrate all beautiful forms of love and gender identity.
To kick off the month, we’ve put together a list of some of your favorite musical artists who identify as nonbinary. These are genre-benders, barrier-breakers, talented voices from across the sonic spectrum.
Here are six stunning nonbinary artists to rock out to this Pride Month.

DEMI LOVATO
Demi Lovato made big news last month when they came out publicly as nonbinary. They spoke out through a video posted on Twitter in May, where they said they hoped the world would accept their choice.
Lovato’s devoted fans around the world celebrated their decision to show their true self. Lovato has persevered as one of the most vital and most captivating voices in pop music for years despite the many personal challenges they’ve had to overcome.

SAM SMITH
The Grammy Award-winning icon Sam Smith came out as nonbinary in late 2019. They announced a Twitter thread, where they wrote, “After a lifetime of being at war with my gender I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out.”
Smith is a powerhouse vocalist best known for their breakthrough single “Stay With Me” and recent chart-toppers like “Dancing With a Stranger (feat. Normani)” and “Diamonds.” Smith released their third studio album Love Goes, in October 2020.

CHRISTINE AND THE QUEENS
The French artist is known as Christine and the Queens identifies as pansexual and genderqueer. The 33-year-old has been an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ-identifying people, especially trans individuals. The drag queen scene also inspired her stage name in London.
Known for her innovative electropop style, Christine has become a global phenom in recent years. Her blending of languages and genres has captivated people of all nations and identities.

KING PRINCESS
This 22-year-old Brooklynite isn’t a fan of picking sides. When asked about her gender identity in an interview for W magazine, King Princess said, “I’m somebody who falls center on the gender spectrum, and it changes day to day. It’s just not in me to decide.”
King Princess dropped her first studio album, Cheap Queen, in 2019 to rave reviews. Despite being so young, she’s already on her way to becoming one of the most loved figures in indie-pop.

PRINCESS NOKIA
Princess Nokia is a badass feminist who can’t be bothered with the gender binary. This up-and-coming emo rapper became a favorite at gay nightclubs and hadn’t looked back since.
First, she was dropping viral hits that helped her reach the Billboard Heatseekers chart. Then came her full-length albums, two of which she dropped in 2020. And in 2021, she released her first single through a major record label. She’s on her way to big things.

TASH SULTANA
Tash Sultana is a nonbinary Australian artist who can play 20 different musical instruments. If that isn’t enough to intrigue you, we’ll tell you more.
You can’t help but fall in love with Sultana’s voice. They’re a self-proclaimed one-person band and one of the hottest guitarists in the world right now. They dropped their second studio album Terra Firma in February 2021. Treat yourself to an ambient experience and give it a listen.
