RANKING FOO FIGHTERS BEST
The Band’s Upcoming Album + Best Songs So Far

After a long wait, Foo Fighters will return in February with its first album since 2017.
The band’s tenth album, Medicine at Midnight, was initially scheduled for release in 2020, just in time for Foo Fighters’ 25th anniversary. But in May, Dave Grohl announced that the record would be put on hold indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Medicine at Midnight drops on February 5, 2021. So far, the band has released two singles from the album. “Shame Shame” came in November, and it had the fastest rise to the top of Billboard’s Rock Airplay chart in four years. It also let Foo Fighters take back the record for most number 1s on the chart. Then, the band helped everyone start 2021 right by releasing “No Son of Mine” on New Year’s Day. The fiery rock song was a return to the style Foo Fighters are most known for and loved.
To gear up for the rest of the album, we’re counting down our favorite songs to date. Here are Foo Fighters’ seven best songs ranked:
#7 “Walk”
We kick off our list with the 2011 single “Walk” from Foo Fighters’ seventh studio album, Wasting Light. According to Grohl, the song was partially inspired by his experiences teaching his daughter to walk. The song won two Grammy Awards in 2012.
#6 “The Pretender”
Next, we have one of Foo Fighters’ best songs ever. “The Pretender” was the band’s most popular single from the 2007 album Echos, Silence, Patience & Grace. It’s still Foo Fighters’ third highest-charting single to date, reaching number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100.
#5 “Times Like These”
Another iconic Foo Fighters track, “Times Like These,” was everywhere after its release in 2003. You could hear it in movies, TV, sporting events, and even during political campaign events. The single is on Foo Fighters’ fourth album One by One.
#4 “My Hero”
Our next pick comes from the Foo Fighters’ sophomore album, The Colour and the Shape. Many have interpreted the song to be about Grohl’s close friend Kurt Cobain, but Grohl himself has said that the song was for “ordinary, everyday heroes.”
#3 “Learn to Fly”
The lead single of the Foo Fighters’ third album is another of the band’s most recognizable songs. “Learn to Fly” was its first song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, and the music video won a Grammy for Best Short Form Video in 2000.
#2 “Best of You”
Grohl penned this fan-favorite after his involvement inspired him in John Kerry’s presidential campaign. While many consider “Best of You” a love song, Grohl said that he finds universal meaning in the lyrics. The song dropped in 2005 as the lead single of the band’s fifth studio album, In Your Honor.
#1 “Everlong”
In our top spot, we have Foo Fighters’ most famous, best-loved song, “Everlong.” The acoustic version, some of the band’s best work, continues to be a signature track played during nearly every performance. “Everlong” was released in 1997 as the second single on The Colour and the Sound.
