Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard is a 17-year-old Australian who took the rap world by storm in 2020.

Howard, known as The Kid LAROI, started making music when he was just 13 years old. His stage name comes from the Australian indigenous tribe, the Kamilaroi; Howard’s mother comes from the tribe.

Inspired by Tupac’s music, Erykah Badu, and The Fugees, Howard began rapping as a young teenager. He performed for small audiences and competed in an Australian radio competition before landing a record deal in 2019.

Howard rose to prominence in 2018 and 2019 in large part because of the late rapper Juice WRLD. During his national tours, Howard supported Juice WRLD during those years, and Juice WRLD, in turn, mentored the young rising star.

In 2020, Howard collaborated with some other big-name hip-hop stars. His breakthrough single “Diva” featured American rapper Lil Tecca. The song racked up millions of listens just days after being posted on the popular YouTube channel Lyrical Lemonade. Soon after, Howard scored another viral hit when he released “Addison Rae,” named after the sensational TikTok star. A month later, Howard’s highly anticipated collaboration with Juice WRLD, titled “Go,” was released, giving Howard his first entry onto the Billboard Hot 100.

In July 2020, Howard released his first mixtape F*ck Love to rave reviews. The deluxe version peaked at number 3 on the American album chart, and it later received an ARIA Award nomination for Best Hip-Hop release.

The Kid LAROI hasn’t announced any definite plans for 2021, but we’re expecting something big. He already has the industry’s attention, many high-profile alliances under his belt, and infinite possibilities ahead.
