Trippie Redd is one of rap’s rising stars. He’s young, just 21-years-old, and prolific. He’s released three albums in the past three years and has another scheduled to drop in 2021. There’s no question. He’s on his way to the top.

Michael Lamar White IV, better known as Trippie Redd, was born and grew up in Ohio. His mother raised him listening to hip-hop and R&B icons like Ashanti, Tupac, and Nas. His teen years were filled with pop-punk artists like Simple Plan and The Summer Set, rock legends including KISS and Nirvana, and modern rappers that include Lil Wayne. All of these superstars from across the genres help mold White into the genre-bender he is now.

White’s career kicked off after his high school graduation when he moved to Atlanta. There, he met fellow rapper Lil Wop. The two began recording together, and White eventually scored a record deal with the label Strainge Entertainment. He then moved to Los Angeles.

In 2017, White dropped his first mixtape, A Love Letter To You. The collection’s lead single, “Love Scars,” quickly racked up millions of views on YouTube and even more listened on SoundCloud. That same year, he was featured on an XXXTentación song that would reach the Billboard Hot 100 and collaborated with superstar rapper Travis Scott. White’s breakthrough moment had officially come.

The following year, White released his debut album Life’s A Trip. Its 16 tracks were a unique blend of emo rap and R&B. The album featured several stars, including Travis Scott, Young Thug, Diplo, and Chief Keef.

White has since released two more albums, each bigger and better than the last. His list of collaborations has also continued to grow –– there aren’t many famous contemporary rappers left that he HASN’T worked with to date.

Recently, White released a rock-influenced deluxe edition of his third album Pegasus. His next album, Trip at Knight, is reportedly also coming this year. In other words, Trippie Redd is still releasing music non-stop, and we can’t complain.
