Global Stardom + A New Album On the Way
Rosalia Bila Tobella, better known as merely Rosalia, has become an international superstar in recent years. She’s currently one of the Latin voices taking the popular music charts and award shows by storm and there’s still more to come in 2020.
Born in Barcelona, Spain, Rosalia’s pursuit of music began at a young age. She studied at prestigious fine arts schools in Spain when she was a teen, receiving vocal instruction from renowned artists. A prominent Spanish record producer noticed her talent for flamenco in 2016. Less than a year later, her first studio album Los Angeles was released.
Rosalia’s early works were deeply rooted in flamenco tradition, but her style soon shifted toward a more modern blend of genres. In 2018, she released her breakthrough single “Malamente,” a spirited pop song written by Rosalia. The song was celebrated by several high-profile American stars, including Madonna and Dua Lipa. It received five Latin Grammy nominations, winning two, and is five times certified platinum.
After “Malamente” put Rosalia on the international music map, she began collaborating with famous Spanish and English-speaking artists. Her tracks with Travis Scott, J Balvin, Pharrell and James Blake were all instrumental in making her a popular figure on not only the Latin charts but the U.S. lists as well.
In late 2018, Rosalia released her second studio album, El Mal Querer. Like her previous work, it was widely acclaimed both within the Latin and international music communities. The blend of urban and R&B tracks infused with energetic pop beats earned Rosalia her first Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album at the 2020 award ceremony.
Since the release of El Mal Querer, Rosalia has sporadically released several singles without confirming that an album was on the way –– until recently. In a press conference held via Zoom recently, Rosalia confirmed that her next record would likely be released this year. Although no date, title or tracklist was given, we’re already excited for new music from one of our favorite rising stars.
