The singer songwriter is making ballads cool

“Music has always been what I always wanted to do, but I didn’t know how or when I was going to get discovered,” said Ruth B, the Canadian singer-songwriter who took matters into her own hands by posting her work on Vine. Her music and lyrics to a song called “Lost Boy” hit a social media nerve and eventually got released as her first official single. Now Ruth has a record contract, she released an EP last fall and has a full album in the works for later this year. Still, she’s sticking with the do-it-yourself ethos that brought her acclaim in the first place. “I wrote and produced the EP myself,” Ruth says. “I think for me writing is a very intimate process and in a sense I’m always writing now. I don’t really sit to ‘write a song.’ It’s always going on in my head. ‘Lost Boy’ was the first song I had ever written, but now I have about 14 songs under my belt. But I’m always coming up with ideas and always documenting my experiences.”
